Va-va-volume for straight, wavy, and curly hair.
This fall, give your hair some oomph and copy one of these three voluminous hairstyles-perfect for straight, wavy, or naturally curly hair!
To add volume to straight hair, start the process in the shower. Since hair is at its bounciest when it's clean, lather up with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner-but, don't condition your roots as this may weigh down your locks. Pat hair dry and use a volumizing mousse at the roots. Blow dry on low heat setting with a large barrel brush, lifting the hair up and away from the crown to build volume. Once your hair is dry, reach for a curling wand with a 1- to 1.5-inch barrel. Section hair and starting from the bottom, curl 1-inch sections of hair around the barrel. Alternate between curling hair away from and toward your face-this helps to add tons of volume and movement. When you get to the top section decide on your part-we suggest a trendy sleek middle part for a boho vibe. As soon as your hair is completely curled and cooled, spray with a light-hold hairspray and flip your head upside-down, run your fingers through the curls to separate, and flip back over. If your hair falls flat the next day, hit your roots with a dry shampoo to give your style new life.
For naturally wavy hair, you can opt to embrace your hair's naturally tousled texture by spritzing texturizing spray through damp strands and air drying. For more defined waves with volume, after air drying reach for a ½-inch and 1-inch curling wand and wrap the top section of your hair around the barrels, alternating between each for a more natural wave pattern. Leave out the bottom inch of hair when you wrap and after 10 seconds, let the hair drop from the wand, and then tug on the end to elongate the wave. Once the entire top section of hair has been curled and cooled, gently separate the curls with your fingers and spray with a light-hold hairspray.
Perhaps the most naturally voluminous hair texture, curly hair is big and beautiful all on its own. Here are a few simple tricks to make your curly hair even more gorgeous. Start in the shower and wash and deeply condition with hydrating shampoos and conditioners formulated for curly hair. When you're conditioning, run a wide tooth comb through your curls to detangle. Use an old t-shirt to squeeze excess water from your hair-this decreases frizz-and distribute a hydrating hair oil, leave in conditioner, or curl-enhancing product through your damp strands. Next, put a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer, and diffuse your hair on the low speed and low heat setting.
