Why You Need Hair Care Treatments

That extra TLC will go a long way.

When we think of beautiful hair, the words bouncy, voluminous, luscious, sleek, and shiny come to mind. It's safe to say those are adjectives we'd love for everyone to use when discussing our mane. The truth is, nobody can achieve perfect-looking hair without putting inthe proper effort required to get there. Just like you can't snap your fingers and have silky smooth skin, your hair's health is dependent on plenty of assistance which can (and should!) begin with regular hair care treatments. We tapped L'Oreal Professionnel Artist Michelle Lindsay from Cultures Salon for details on why hair care treatments are so important-plus some of her all-time favorites to use!

The Importance of Hair Care Treatments

Think your hair can look and feel its best without some extra TLC? Think again! Your mane comes in contact with plenty of aggressors daily-from styling (and re-styling), to brushing and spending time under the sun's harmful UV rays-which, without the proper care, can begin to wreak havoc. "Getting a treatment done in the salon can repair what's already been done and also build up the hair to resist the aggression we put it through every day," Lindsay says.

Head to a Salon

At-home treatments are great, but Lindsay recommends heading to a salon to really get the ball rolling on repairing and adding protection to hair. "At-home treatments may protect your hair, but they aren't going to solve your issues," Lindsay warns. "Those treatments generally make the hair feel better for a day or two, but when you wash your hair again, they're gone."

In-salon treatments, on the other hand, are made to last much longer and can better repair damage. "Another benefit to in-salon treatments is that your stylist can customize one to your specific hair needs and address the things you do to your hair," Lindsay says. "Is your hair coarse and needs smoothing and moisture? We've got something for you. Is it fragile and breaking? We have something for that! Do you have static? Guess what? Yes, we have something for that too."

What Treatments You Should Consider

Let's face it, there are thousands of hair care treatments out there to try and the selection can become overwhelming. Lindsay swears by the L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Powermix range on her clients. "With Powermix, I have the ability to cater the treatment to each client's specific hair care need," she says. "The beautiful thing about these treatments is the corresponding at-home regimen I can recommend to prolong the effect and combat my clients' unhealthy hair habits." Another product line she can't live without? L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Inforcer. "We have quite a few clients with fine, fragile hair, who have difficulty growing their hair out so Inforcer has been my go-to in salon," Lindsay says. "With the addition of SmartBond in their color service, the Inforcer in-salon treatment and the recommended at-home care, have become a game changer."

In summary: Think of at-home treatments as your weekly maintenance, and in-salon treatments as the ultimate treat to set your hair's look and feel over the edge!
