Tame unruly strands...once and for all!
Is frizz the bane of your existence? Join the club. When the weather is warm-and humidity is on the rise-frizz becomes an ever-present dilemma that many are left to deal with. But in order to fight the good fight against unwanted frizz, it's important to know what causes it to occur in the first place. We tapped L'Oreal Professionnel Artist Amit Abraham to dish on exactly what causes frizz and how it can be prevented-plus, his top tips at taming those unruly strands once and for all!
What causes frizz?
Is your hair frizzing left and right? You might think it has to do with poor luck, but the reason behind it actually has to do with your hair's health. "The reason hair frizzes has to do with the hair's moisture levels," says Abraham. "When the cuticle layer of your hair is open, it allows moisture to pass through and evaporate. If the environment is more moisture rich than the hair, frizz occurs." In other words, if your hair is dry and dehydrated, it's more vulnerable to frizz in humid and moisture-rich environments.
How can frizz be prevented?
Since frizz occurs when the cuticle layer of the hair is open, one of the most effective ways of preventing frizz is to ensure the cuticle is properly moisturized and sealed. How can that be done? "The way to achieve this is to we prep the hair with a frizz-protecting product," Abraham says. "L'Oreal Professionnel Dual Stylers Sleek & Swing and L'Oreal Professionnel Dual Stylers Liss & Pump-Up both utilize intra-cyline to fight frizz." Abraham also recommends the L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Liss Unlimited range, specifically the mask and shampoo. "Make sure to blow-dry hair to lay the cuticle down and trap in the moisture," he says. "Next, use a heated styling tool to seal the cuticle and keep it shut for as long as possible. Finish with hairspray."
How can frizz be tamed?
Despite your best efforts, your hair turned frizzy. Now what? "If the hair happens to frizz, the best thing to do is spray water on it, blow it dry, and finish with a straightening iron," Abraham says. "If that is not a possibility, I recommend using L'Oreal Professionnel Mythic Oil Huile Originale to tame the frizz." If the frizz is still a problem after those attempts, Abraham recommends throwing your hair up into a cute ponytail and spraying it back with hairspray for a windswept style that can hide the frizz and still look chic.
