Tricks to Prolonging Your Blowout

A solution at last.

When you take the time to create an at-home blowout or head to the salon for a professional masterpiece, the last thing you want is for your roots to fall flat by day two. To help you achieve (and maintain) some of your most voluminous #hairgoals, we sat down with Carrie Stotts, a L'Oréal Professionnel Artist, to learn a few tips and tricks to prolong that beautiful bounce.

The Best Tips and Tricks to Create and Prolong the Perfect Blowout

"Making sure you use tools that will get the hair smooth and fully dry will maximize the style for longevity," Stotts says.

Beyond styling, on the days post-blowout where you need to hop in the shower, don't fret! Just reach for a terry cloth-lined shower cap to protect your bounce. What's more, when it's time to hit the hay, strip your regular cotton pillowcase and replace it with a satin or silk option. While these pillowcases can benefit all hair, whether blown-out or dried naturally, they will prove to be particularly helpful at maintain sleek, smooth strands.

The Best Products for Maintaining a Blowout

Certain hair tools – like a blow dryer and curling iron – might be total no-brainers, but selecting the right product to create and prolong a blowout may not be quite as apparent. Luckily, Stotts is here to save the day. "I always start my blowouts with Vitamino Color 10 in 1 Spray to protect hair from heat damage," Stott says. From there, she explains that she loves to prime hair with Densité for natural-looking volume before blow drying with Waves Fatales for a flexible long-lasting hold.

While dry shampoo is the first product to come to mind to prolong a blowout, it actually shouldn't be used until the third or fourth day if you want to maintain gorgeous shine. Instead, reach for a dry texturizing spray, like the L'Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Wild Stylers Next Day Hair Hairspray . Spray it onto a round boar's bristle brush and run it over your voluminous waves for a revitalizing, smoothing effect. If your ends look dry, consider massaging some hair cream in for hydration or spraying on a dry conditioner, like Inforcer Brush Proof.

Another great option? Once your blowout starts to look really rugged, instead of washing your salon-styled look down the drain, reach for a bottle of the L'Oréal Professionnel Tecni.Art Wild Stylers Beach Waves to embrace the season's favorite gritty hair look.

With these tips and tricks, you can expect to take your blowout from day one to day five while looking totally on-trend all week long. Talk about a good hair week!
