The wavy bob-known in some stylish circles as the wob-has quickly become a celebrity favorite thanks to its low-maintenance, yet edgy appeal. Our stylists say the cut's sexy, carefree allure works with most face shapes and adds loads of dimension to highlighted or balayaged hair. When cut properly this style can immediately evoke a beachy, breezy feel.
If you have a natural wave, play it up with a product that keeps your texture soft and frizz-free. Allow your locks to air dry or blow dry with a diffuser to maintain your waves. For girls with straight strands, work a volumizing mousse through your hair and curl small sections in opposite directions using a one-inch curling iron.
"The wavy bob has movement. It's a great way to add texture to hair, especially fine hair, when you're looking for volume," New York City Stylist and L'Oréal Professionnel Artist Amit Abraham says. "[Waves] give the bob a sexy, playful energy," he says. This style is also a great way to grow out a bob. Abraham says that waves help your hair appear shorter, allowing it to stay in bob territory longer.
"The wavy bob can be styled beautifully slicked back from the face," Abraham says. Add a little volumizing mousse to wet hair, then blow it backwards off the face with a quick blast from the blow dryer. Distribute a splash of gel throughout your palms and rake your fingers through your locks from front to back. Finish the look by blow drying on low and cool settings, scrunching the ends if necessary to keep it wavy. "This is a wonderful way to wear and alter the look," he says.
