"[This style] opens up the features of a woman's face and neck significantly more than many other cuts," says New York City stylist and L'Oréal Pro Ambassador Drew Schaefering. One of the best reasons to try this cut is that it is wash-and-go. A good stylist will make sure to keep a sense of softness, whether using scissors or a razor, Schaefering says. Your hairstylist will know the best technique for your face shape, and once you've got this killer cut, day-to-day maintenance will be a breeze.
Start with either second-day hair or clean, towel-dried hair, and brush it all forward from the back of the crown. Use a root-lifting spray or dry shampoo to pump up the roots by lifting hair in sections and spraying the root directly-then rub it in with your fingers to create an overall disheveled, piecey look. Then, use a nickel-size amount of styling wax or thick styling paste to scrunch and tousle the top while smoothing out the shortest hairs along the nape of the neck and along the ears.
Schaefering suggests heating up the product in the container to make it more malleable and easier to spread throughout your hair. To do so, open the container and focus the blowdryer on the container for a few seconds.
Dress it up with a strong eyebrow or pop of vibrant lip color. Dramatic earrings will also accentuate the style.
