Tips straight from a pro.
When summer rolls around, more and more women opt to ditch their long layers in favor of shorter cuts that require less upkeep, like the always-trendy bob. There's no denying that the bob cut is a perennial favorite, and with so many benefits to the style, it's easy to understand why.
"The bob is bold and dramatic with minimal styling required," says L'Oreal Professionnel artist Tab Salsman. "It's all in the cut, which makes it such a great summer style." What's more, since a bob cut exposes your neck, it provides more comfort in warm weather and reduces the risk for sweat build-up. Sounds like a no-brainer if you ask us!
Need a helping hand on how to style your bob this season? You're in luck! We tapped Salsman to share his top techniques for styling a bob in the summertime. Read on for his tips!
Why You Should Choose a Bob
"Bobs can be fun, flirty, sleek, chic and mysterious, which is why I think this look is so iconic," Salsman says. "Also, there's a liberation of the day-to-day fuss of dealing with the maintenance of long hair. You can say goodbye to hair ties!"
When it comes to styling a bob, Salsman says his go-to product is L'Oreal Professionnel Or Graphic gel as it can help with the structure and hold of the style. "It's a creamy gel that has the perfect amount of hold for blow-drying not just for bobs, but for all lengths," he says. "The added bonus is that it really does beautiful things when you let the hair's natural waves or curls come through either by air drying or by diffusing."
To begin the style, Salsman recommends using a small paddle brush with a concentrated nozzle to dry the hair. For extra sleekness, run a flat iron through the mid-shaft to the ends of the hair. If you'd like to embrace curls and waves, twist irregular sized sections of hair away from the face with a curling iron. For looser waves, allow the sections to cool before running your fingers through them. Finish with a few spritzes of hairspray or smooth a nourishing oil through the lengths to help tame flyaways.
Pro tip: Short on time? Ditch the styling tools altogether and instead opt for just a few spritzes of L'Oreal Professionnel Beach Waves texturizing spray from the roots to the ends. "It's a quick and easy way to style your bob for the beach or a pool party this summer," Salsman says.
