The summer haircare tips you need now!
Sure the summer sun is responsible for those natural sun-kissed highlights, but it can also be the culprit behind parched, dehydrated hair. If your hair is looking less fabulous and more fried this summer, you're going to want to read this. We share four steps for keeping your hair hydrated in the summer heat, below.
Hydrate from the Inside, Out
First things first, if you don't already, it's time to step up your H2O game and drink at least eight glasses of water each day. Summer is notoriously the sweatiest season, so you need to replenish that moisture. Keep a water bottle at your desk to promote hydration or jazz things up with a little fruit. Lack of hydration can create brittle strands that are more prone to breakage and frizz, so drink up!
Switch Up Your Routine
If you're noticing dried out locks-or worse...split ends-it's time to switch things up. Reach for hydrating shampoos and conditioners that offer nourishment and extra moisture which can help to strengthen your hair. Use hair oils and serums to lock in moisture and pencil in a little me time on Sunday nights and treat your hair to a deep conditioning masque.
Turn Down the Heat
Cool things down in the summer months by embracing your natural hair texture and saving the flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers for special occasions. Heat styling hair-especially without using a heat protectant-can strip your locks of moisture and cause them to dry out. Plus, rocking your natural curls or the straight hair you were born with is very in style!
Protect Your Mane
Chlorinated pools, the salty ocean, sun bathing, these activities all have one thing in common: they dry the heck out of your hair. Treat your hair the way you would your skin in the sun: wear a hat or a scarf and seek shade. If you're going swimming, saturate your strands with fresh water-and even a leave-in conditioner-before taking a dip in the deep end!
