How to Guarantee Long-Lasting Waves on Straight Hair

We've got the low-down.

Smack dab in the middle of awards season, on top of the stunning dresses and eye-catching accessories, we can't help but be star-struck by the gorgeous waves posing and strutting down the red carpet. While these models, singers and actresses are among the industry's most elite, the real magic behind their hair lies with their stylists who know the right tips and tricks to guarantee long-lasting waves – even on the straightest strands.

To help you achieve the red carpet-worthy waves of your dreams, we tapped Carrie Stotts, a L'Oréal Professionnel Artist, to share everything from tools and techniques to products to lock in the look.

How to Create Long-Lasting Waves on Straight Hair

While you may think that celebrity is the magical ingredient in achieving ultimate #hairgoals, Stotts points out that it's all about the prep products that make or break long-lasting waves. "Putting in products that build memory in the hair while it is damp builds a strong foundation for any bend in the hair," Stotts says.

To achieve this prep step at home, stock up on a bottle of Tecni.Art Densité to build lift at the root, thicken strands and create a primed mane ready for styling.

Once you've prepped your hair, take Stotts word and turn away from rollers or a curling wand in favor of a good old fashion curling iron. "I find that curling irons work best on straight hair because they will heat up on both sides, giving hair a strong shape.

To lock in your wavy look, you want to make sure that your hair care vanity is stocked to the brim. "My go to products for making straight hair wavy is Volume Envy Extra from roots to ends while wet and to finish with Next Day Hair and Infinium 3 when dry," Stotts says. Another great product that works well to boost waves is the Hollywood Waves Siren Waves Cream . The lightweight cream is perfect to create soft waves on straight hair, or go all out with big, voluminous curls.

Now, who's ready to rock a head full of A-list approved waves?
