Habits of Women with Great Hair

Start making these part of your hair care routine and your strands will thank you.

Scrolling through your social feeds and walking through everyday life, there's no doubt that you'll run into more than a few women with great hair. While many of these social-savvy girls may be beauty influencers, models, celebs or the like, that doesn't mean you can't achieve equally as gorgeous hair. To help you realize your hair's full potential, we sat down with Chelsea Vonne James to talk about all things great hair. From treatments and your daily brushing habits to the importance of dry shampoo, prepare to open your eyes to a whole new world of hair below.

Brush Your Hair Before You Shower

When your hair is wet, it is more prone to breakage. So, if you hop into the shower with knotty strands, trying to untangle them could lead to some pretty unsightly (not to mention uncomfortable) hair damage. That said, make it a habit to brush through your strands before hopping into the shower to ensure that they'll be knot-free and squeaky-clean when you emerge.

Use Hair Treatments

There are hair treatments on the market that benefit each and every hair type. Whether you want to stock up on an at-home masque or head to the salon for a professional glossing treatment, your strands will thank you for it by being stronger, shinier and more brilliant overall.

Be Gentle with Tangles

As impatient as you may feel with your ever-tangled tresses, it's very important to never tug or rip at them. These actions can lead to split ends and breakage, both of which will be much more time-consuming to manage than a few knots. So, take it easy, apply a nourishing oil, like Mythic Oil , and give your tresses the TLC they deserve by brushing from the bottom up.

Blot, Don't Rub

Shocker, we know. As much as it seems like all of our mothers told us to rub and wring our hair dry, the real trick to head-turning tresses is to avoid those methods and blot. When you rub or wring your hair, you risk disrupting the hair's cuticle, promoting breakage and frizz for a less-than-perfect hair look.

Stretch Out Your Washes

While showering daily is totally necessary, washing your hair everyday can wreak havoc on the appearance of your mane. Because your natural oils are scrubbed away, along with dirt and product buildup, your strands can be left dry, dull and depleted.

To stretch out your washes, stock your hair care routine with a quality dry shampoo and dry texturizer, like the L'Oréal Professinnel Densité and L'Oréal Professionnel Next Day Hair. To help your hair keep its volume, rely on a dry texturizer for day two locks and dry shampoo on day three to mattify shine and absorb oils.

Protect Against Heat

The same way repeated exposure to high water temperatures can leave your strands looking less than stunning, so can high temperatures on hot tools. That said, in addition to never heating above 365 degrees and always using the lowest possible temperature to achieve your chosen style, always start your heat-made look with a heat protectant to defend against any heat related damage that could affect the overall health and appearance of your hair.

Let Your Hair Air-Dry 75% Before Adding Product

The wetter your hair is, the more diluted the products you pump into it will become. That said, before applying any cream, gel, mousse or spray to your strands, make sure to allow your hair to air dry a bit so that the formulas won't run clear, turning ineffective.

Use Quality Hair Care Products

Last but not least, women with great hair know the value of quality hair care products. When it comes to creating and maintaining gorgeous hair, be sure to turn an eye towards professional products for optimal benefits.
