A cut above the rest!
Last year, the lob happened and it quickly became the go-to cut for celebrities, influencers, and girls next door. The best part about this mid-length style is that it's got serious legs. This year, the lob is still reigning supreme thanks to its versatility and ability to complement all textures and face shapes. Interested in giving last season's lob a modern update? Keep reading.
Blunt cut, layered, with bangs, or without, the lob-or long bob-is simply not going anywhere. While the classic bob is often cut with sharp lines, a lob looks best with subtle, stacked long layers that gives it movement and dimension. To add to that dimension, and frame your face, celebrity stylist and L'Oréal Professionnel Artist Jennifer MacDougall recommends taking large sections and wrapping them once around a large-barrel curling iron away from your face. "Just hit the mid-length so it takes a turn away from the face at that point," she says. A touch of light-hold hairspray will help to keep it in place without making your hair crunchy.
Another modern tip for this year's lob is to cut shaggy layers. The shag-worn long or short-is hot right now. Shaggy lobs are a lazy girl's dream as they are the ultimate wash and wear style, simply put in a little hair oil or texturizing spray and allow your locks to air dry. The strategically cut layers will allow the look to fall in place all on its own-and look even better on day two!
While not for the faint of heart, a wet-look lob adds instant edge to your lob. Use a wet-look gel on damp locks and brush through small sections with a comb starting at the nape of the neck. Once you get to the top, slick everything back-so there is no part-and go.
Curly and wavy girls, rejoice! A tousled lob is the perfect look for fall. Allow your hair to air dry and then, using a small half-inch barrel curling wand, wrap one-inch sections around the barrel, alternating between wrapping them toward and then away from your face. Once your hair is completely curled and the coils have cooled, brush through the curls with your fingers to separate and spray with a light-hold hairspray to keep your style in place.
Finally, the most modern take on a lob is to get an angular cut. Worn sleek and straight with a deep side part, an angled lob radiates chicness. Ask your hairdresser to cut this look with a razor for a truly bold 'do. To style, use a blow-dry cream to help control frizz and blow dry on the lowest setting using a flat brush. Go over everything once with a flat iron and spray a little light-hold hairspray or use a styling wax like Lumi-Controle to tame any flyaways.
