Rock this '90s favorite...the adult way!
When it comes to today's hair trends, what's old is becoming new again. From the shag haircut to high side ponytails, contemporary trends in hair are taking cues from past favorites. The latest style to receive a modern revival? Double buns-also known as space buns. If you're scratching your head right now, fear not. We're sharing everything you need to know about space buns-plus how to get the look-ahead!
Space Buns Strike Back
You may not have been a fan of space buns growing up in the nineties, but we're willing to bet that you'll have a different opinion of the modern day version! Not only are space buns incredibly versatile, they strike the perfect balance between playful and elegant. Today's space buns are bigger and slightly messier than their '90s counterparts. Perched high up on the head, they can look like cute mouse ears or edgy headphones. If you're tired of rocking the same old bun, ponytail, or blowout, space buns can be a welcomed addition to your summer repertoire-whether you're headed to a music festival, the beach, or an outdoor office party!
Get the Look
Not surprisingly, there's more than one way to achieve a space bun. We love space buns constructed using a twisting technique. To get the look, start by creating two high ponytails secured with small transparent elastics. Next, twist each section around your finger tightly so that the hair curls naturally around itself and then tuck the ends into the elastic. As a last step, use a strong-hold hairspray, like L'Oréal Professionnel Infinium 4, for a long-lasting, natural-looking finish with maximum shine.
Alternatively, you could opt for a messier look, styling your hair into two ballerina buns and then teasing out sections of the hair using a tail comb. To add texture, spray some dry shampoo, such as L'Oréal Professionnel Fresh Dust, onto the roots before brushing and styling. For a real nod to the nineties, pull two 1-inch sections of hair down at the front of the face.
